Bernard COUSINIER
Bernard Cousinier was born in 1942 in Castres, France.
He lives and works in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.
After ENSBA of Paris, and from the beginning of his work, B.Cousinier tried to release himself from the frame of the picture and from its binding geometry.
First, je created series of paintings where he modified his frames and painted on irregular canvas.
At the beginning of the 90s, he continued to use this thematics, but in a radical way.
Since then, he developed a language of simple forms, close to the minimalist movement - from the plan to the thickness of the plan, and then of the volume, to the structure and to the consideration of the architecture of the place.
One the one hand, his work follows carefully the principle of verticality of the painting. On the other hand, the movement of side sweeping pressent in his work aims at « exceeding » the pictorial frontality of the painting towards a paint « in space ».
Bernard Cousinier has participated in collective exhibitions at the castle of Kerguéhennec, at the Museum Camprédon, at the museum of Toulon, at the Museum of Nice …
He is represented by the gallery Pixi Marie-Victoire Poliakoff.
Bernard Cousinier also exposes at the Virgile Legrand gallery and produced in 2014 with Gérard Durozoi an artist book that was printed in six copies.
Bernard Cousinier né en 1942 à Castres, France, vit et travaille à Saint-Maur-des-Fossés.
Après l’ENSBA de Paris, dès le début de sa pratique B.Cousinier cherche à se libérer de l’enfermement du tableau et de sa géométrie contraignante.
Il réalise un temps des séries de peintures où il modifie ses châssis et peint sur des tableaux irréguliers.
Au début des années 90, il reprend cette thématique de manière radicale.
Depuis, il développe un langage de formes simples, proches des minimalistes qui vont du plan à sa mise en épaisseur, puis du volume à la structure et à la prise en compte de l’architecture du lieu.
Son travail suit à la lettre le principe de verticalité du tableau tandis que le mouvement de balayage latéral qui traverse toutes ses œuvres vise à «dépasser» la frontalité picturale du tableau vers une peinture «spatialisée».
Bernard Cousinier a notamment participé à des expositions collectives au château de Kerguéhennec, au Musée Camprédon , au musée de Toulon, au Musée de Nice…
Il est représenté par la galerie Pixi Marie-Victoire Poliakoff.
Bernard Cousinier expose aussi à la galerie Virgile Legrand et a réalisé en 2014 avec Gérard Durozoi un livre d’artiste publié en six exemplaires.
